Downey Care Center for Bookmark Making

In honor of the upcoming Valentines Day, we at A-1 Home Care decided to go to the Downey Care Center to lead our new art series featuring Jackie Brown, who is our head of marketing. Today, we created handmade Valentines Day themed bookmarks. Here is the activities list, if you feel like making them with a favorite senior at home

Valentines Themed Tasseled Bookmarks

Supplies:

Patterned cardstock
Colored yarn
Markers
Stencils
Stickers and Foam stickies
Single hole punch

Instructions:

1. Cut out the cardstock to measurements of 1.5 in wide x 5 in long
2. Punch a hole on the top of each bookmark
3. Using the assorted materials, Encourage seniors to decorate their bookmarks to their preferences. Lots of ideas include making Valentines day themed hearts, adding a personalized message, or drawing pictures with markers.
4. Taking loops of yarn, tie strands to the end and trim to make a tassel.

A Look into out Holiday Party at Pirates Adventure Dinner/ A-1 Home care Senior Agency

Last Saturday, all of us at the A-1 Home Care corporate offices went to Pirates Adventure Theater in Buena Park for a rollicking good Christmas party. We were super excited to live out our childhood fantasies of watching live action pirate duels while eating an amazing dinner, thanks to General Manager Sue!

There were spooky skeletons strewn on the top of the ceiling, watching hungrily was they watched servers offer us appetizers of meatball bites and other assorted snacks.

Our company was on the orange team, and we were flying our colors wildly. Personally, we thought that our pirate was the most engaging and energetic!

We saw a theatrical pirate show that included dueling, sword fighting, beautiful pirates songstresses, acrobatic dancing, and gymnastics. It was an amazing spectacle that we couldn't have imagined!

As a side not, our turkey dinners were incredible as well.

Happy Thanksgiving!

One can arguably say that the south holds the seat of regional American cooking. And where better to get advice than from the best? A-1 Home Care loves these tried and true Thanksgiving holiday recipes from SouthernLiving.com. Why don't you and your senior caregiver give these a try for the big feast?

Ingredients:

• 1/2 cup butter
• 3 cups diced celery
• 2 cups diced sweet onions
• 1/2 cup finely chopped fresh sage
• Cornbread Crumbles
• 3 cups soft, fresh breadcrumbs
• 4 large eggs, lightly beaten
• 7 cups chicken broth
• 1 tablespoon freshly ground pepper

  Preparation

• 1. Preheat oven to 400°. Melt butter in a large skillet over medium-high heat; add celery and onions, and sauté 5 to 6 minutes or until onions are tender. Stir in sage, and sauté 1 minute.
• 2. Stir together Cornbread Crumbles and breadcrumbs in a large bowl. Stir in eggs, next 2 ingredients, and celery mixture, stirring until blended. Divide cornbread mixture between 1 lightly greased 13- x 9-inch baking dish and 1 lightly greased 8-inch square baking dish.
• 3. Bake at 400° for 45 to 55 minutes or until set and golden brown.
• Try These Twists!
• Chorizo-and-Dried Cherry Dressing: Saute 3/4 lb. diced chorizo sausage in 1 Tbsp. hot oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat 4 to 5 minutes or until browned; drain. Prepare recipe as directed, stirring sausage and 1 1/2 cups coarsely chopped dried cherries into breadcrumbs in Step 2.
• Fresh Corn-and-Green Chile Dressing: Substitute 3 cups fresh corn kernels for diced celery and 1/2 cup chopped fresh cilantro for sage. Prepare recipe as directed, stirring in 2 (4-oz.) cans chopped green chiles with cilantro in Step 1.
